CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia followed up a six-run first inning with five more runs in the second, then held of a potential Wagner comeback to beat the Seahawks 18-9 at Disharoon Park on Wednesday.
The win completed a two-game sweep of Wagner (1-10), in which UVA (7-5) combined to score 32 runs on 34 hits. The Cavaliers now open up ACC play at home this weekend with three games against Duke.
Six players had multi-hit games for the Wahoos on Wednesday led by Brendan Rivoli, who finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Zack Gelof and Alex Tappen both went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs. Cam Simmons added a three-run home run in the third inning. Simmons and Tanner Morris both scored three times as well.
After shutting out the Seahawks on Monday, UVA's pitching labored on Wednesday. Five pitchers combined to give up nine runs on 11 hits, with 10 walks. Blake Bales (1-0) got the win in relief after throwing three shutout innings.
