Charlotte pulls offer to JMU's Houston

HARRISONBURG, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Mike Houston is not going to be Charlotte's next head football coach after the 49ers pulled an offer Thursday afternoon.

Houston told reporters after JMU's practice Wednesday he had been offered the job and was interested. However, Houston told Charlotte Thursday he wanted to interview for other head coaching jobs as well.

Friday morning, Charlotte athletics director Mike Hill announced the offer to Houston was pulled and they would move on to Plan B.

Houston is reportedly a front runner for a head coaching job in North Carolina at a school with a different shade of purple. East Carolina fired Scotty Montgomery Thursday afternoon. Now Houston is reportedly the front runner for the Pirates head coaching job.

East Carolina has one game left on its schedule, at NC State Saturday afternoon. JMU will play at Colgate in the second round of the FCS playoffs Saturday.
