Cold shooting holds UVA back in loss to Wake Forest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia shot just 25 percent from the field as Wake Forest gets their first ACC win of the season 52-42 at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Demon Deacons started the game on an 11-2 run, while the Cavaliers made only six field goals as a team in the first half.

Wake Forest would lead by as many as 17 in the third quarter, but Virginia responded with a 9-0 run to trim the lead to seven. A Dominique Toussaint layup with 4:21 in the fourth brought Virginia within four points. But a late Ivana Raca three-pointer put the Demon Deacons out of reach.

Toussaint lead the Wahoos with 19 points, while Jocelyn Willoughby was held to just 8 points and 0-5 from three. The Cavaliers forced 22 turnovers and Bri Tinsley finished with a career-high five steals. Raca lead all scorers with 21 points and also chipped in 8 rebounds.

Virginia now has back-to-back road games against Syracuse and Miami this week.
