Covenant honors college bound athletes

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Four Covenant athletes made their college plans official Friday morning, announcing they will continue their athletic careers at the next level.

Three of those athletes will continue baseball careers after leaving Covenant. Wes Arrington will pitch at Lynchburg. Declan Kent will also be an ODAC pitcher, toeing the rubber at Hampden Sydney. Mason Mitchell will play third base at West Virginia University-Potomac State.

"Its a great program," Kent said of Covenant. "It prepares us for college and gives up situations where there's a lot of pressure on us perform. Its something I've wanted for many, many years so I'm really excited that I can finally do it."

"It means a lot," Arrington added. "Its something I've been wanting to do for a while. To have the opportunity to do it means a lot to me."

"Knowing that I'm going to such a great place, a Division I junior college, great connections there," Mitchell said. "They've had guys go to big Division I schools is great to know I'll be in a great place next year."

Maggie Saunders was also honored Friday morning. She is going to Sweet Briar College to swim and ride equestrian.

"Its really exciting," Saunders said. "I'm mostly excited that I get to kind of follow through on my two passions and at the same time go to a school that I really love."
