Covenant's Reese to throw at JMU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- After becoming a seven-time All-State thrower for Covenant, Hallie Reese will get a chance to continue her throwing career at James Madison, but in a whole new event.

"I was actually really shocked when I got the call from [James Madison Track and Field] Coach [Ron] McCown, I was excited," Reese said.

Reese will be a invited member of the James Madison track and field team next year as a thrower in the hammer, an event not offered at the high school level.

"I'm excited to try something new and learn new foot work and have a new opportunity to learn something," Reese said, who threw both shot put and discus for the Eagles.

The opportunity to compete at the Division I level is not something that is lost on Reese.

"I've kind of always had this in the back of my head as a dream that I wanted to acheive," Reese said.
