FUMA introduces new Post Grad and Prep football coaches

FORK UNION, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- It was a changing of the guard, but one with a lot of familiarity as Fork Union Military Academy introduced new Post Graduate Football Coach Frank Arritt and Prep Football Coach Mark Shuman.

"It's a great moment for me to watch my son (Mark) and Frank Arritt, who grew up here as well," FUMA Athletic Director John Shuman said, "Great pedigree, great pedigree families to take over."

Arritt takes over the Post Grad team from John Shuman, who coached the team for more than 30 years and now steps into the role of athletic director. Arritt coached under Shuman for the past 13 seasons and helped lead the team to their first undefeated season under Shuman this past season.

"I've seen the program inside and I've seen it from the outside as a coach, knowing how it's impacted lives," Arritt said of the Post Grad program, "Not much to fix, don't need to reinvent the wheel just need to make sure the wheel keeps going straight with it."

Mark Shuman returned to Fork Union in 2016 after lettering in football at Virginia Tech and served as assistant under his father John this past season. The younger Shuman hopes to return Fork Union Prep football back to their championship winning days when he was a player.

"Honestly I just want to get it back to a winning culture," Mark Shuman said, "I think we kind of need to get a little swagger back and confidence in our prep program. Just being high energy every day."
