Falcon Club hosts 62nd sports banquet

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- The Falcon Club hosted their 62nd annual sports banquet, Sunday night.

Local teams from all over Central Virginia were represented. Nearly 50 awards were given out to teams, players and coaches.

Each coach had the opportunity to speak about their players and award a student-athlete and MVP.

The Harry Martin Memorial Trophy is given to an outstanding public school coach. The award was given to Brandon Isaiah, Albemarle football coach.

"I think now we've proven that we can have a great season but you know from the start I've said I've wanted to build a program. It was never around just having one great year. Now I want to know how it works so we can get these kids to keep moving forward so we can be a consistent winning program," said Isaiah.

The Walter Bickers memorial Trophy is given to an outstanding private school coach. Tim Thomas, Blue Ridge football coach, won the award this year.

"It's a great honor especially among all of the coaches in here that put in the same amount of time that I do. It's just an honor to represent the entire group," said Thomas.

The Falcon Club Most Valuable Player was awarded to a private and a public school student. Lindell Stone from Woodberry Forest won for private and DeAngelo Hunt from Orange County, won for public school.

"It caught me off guard when they started calling out my stats. It just brought me back to the season and makes me feel how I'm going to miss it a lot. I wish I had four more years left of high school football," said Hunt,

"It's kind of finally coming to an end our whole career at Woodberry. To get this award in front of coach and some of my best friends, was really cool," said Stone.

The guest speaker was Lo Davis, Associate Director of the Virginia Athletics Foundation.
