Fetzer steps down as director of track and field, cross country at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- After leading Virginia's track and field and cross country programs since 2011, Director Bryan Fetzer announced Wednesday he was resigning and retiring from coaching.

UVA athletics director Carla Williams named Virginia men's cross country coach Jason Dunn as the interim director as the Cavaliers begin a national search for his replacement.

Fetzer is coming off being named the 2019 Men's ACC Outdoor Coach of the Year after leading the Cavaliers to an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and second place at the ACC Championships.

Under Fetzer, the Wahoos had 101 All-American honors, 54 individual ACC titles and 6 individual NCAA titles. As a program, Virginia had 17 top-25 NCAA finishes among men's and women's track and field and cross country.
