BLACKSBURG, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- The Virginia Tech football program has added another contender in the competition to replace departed starting quarterback Jerod Evans.
Former Nebraska quarterback AJ Bush announced Friday afternoon on Twitter that he had committed to Virginia Tech. Bush spent last season at Iowa Western, a junior college, after spending two years without seeing the field with the Cornhuskers.
Earlier this week, Evans declared for the NFL Draft after breaking eight school records and leading the Hokies to the ACC title game in his lone season as quarterback at Tech. The Hokies also lost last year's backup quarterback, senior Brenden Motley.
Freshman Josh Jackson competed with Evans and Motley for that starting job last summer before ultimately redshirting. Former walk-on Jack Click is the only quarterback currently on the Hokies roster who has thrown a pass in a college game.
