SACRAMENTO, Ca. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- As the NBA Draft reached the later stages, former Virginia guard Kyle Guy was in disbelief when his agent texted his name was about to be called.
"I put "60??" to my agent and they said no, now, it says Knicks, but it's going to the Kings," Guy recalled texting with his agent on draft night, "I told my cousin and my best friend start recording, I told my fiance and then everyone else in the room had no idea."
Guy reminisced about draft night while surrounded by media earlier this week when being introduced as the one of the newest Sacramento Kings. Guy was selected 55th overall by the New York Knicks, which had previously been traded to the Kings.
The former Virginia standout joins a young Kings roster, who just missed out on the playoffs last season.
"The culture, it's up and coming, we're really young. we're one of the top three youngest in the league I believe," Guy said, "I know a lot of people on the team, I feel really comfortable with Coach [Luke] Walton and [Kings General Manager] Vlade [Divac], so I'm really happy to be here and really glad they believe in me."
The Kings open Summer League play Monday, July 1 versus the Golden State Warriors at 8 p.m.
