RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Former Virginia cornerback Tim Harris is less than a week away from taking the next step in his NFL dreams with training camp on the horizon.
"Like I said it was a dream come true just all the stuff that I had been through before," Harris said when talking about being drafted in April, "When it came to the injuries, but I just kept fighting and God got me to where I'm at today."
Harris and his new team, the San Francisco 49ers, open training camp Friday July 26 in Santa Clara, Ca. The 49ers' 6th round pick was in his hometown of Richmond this past week training with another former Wahoo in current Minnesota Viking Anthony Harris.
"[Anthony Harris] and Maurice Canady, I also talk to him, he's a Varina guy too and when I get a chance to work out with him I try to get as many pointers that I can from him too," Harris said.
Harris was one of two Wahoos drafted this past April along with the Kansas City Chiefs selecting Juan Thornhill in the second round. Those two join Harris (Vikings), Canady (Ravens), Quin Blanding (Panthers), Rodney McLeod (Eagles) as six former Virginia defensive backs in NFL training camps this year.
Going into his rookie season, Tim Harris says talking to players like Anthony Harris and Maurice Canady has been crucial to being prepared.
"Just guys that have been in the league, I try to pick their brain and try to see what's going on from their standpoint and try to get as much advice as I can from those guys," Harris said.
