'Hoos building momentum down the stretch

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- All season long the Cavaliers have felt they were just one play away from breaking through and that moment finally arrived against Louisville.

"We might have just missed one pitch or one at bat here or there," senior pitcher Chesdin Harrington said, "But it all culminated this weekend for a big series win and we'll carry that into next week."

Virginia took two games against (6) Louisville to pick a crucial late season ACC series win on Saturday. The series victory was only the third in ACC play for the Cavaliers (29-21,12-15 ACC) this season, but after scoring 10-plus runs in both wins it shows where the team can go.

"You know it just tells us that we have the talent," sophomore pitcher Andrew Abbott said, "When we put the pieces together we can win those kind of ball games and those kind of ball games are the ones we're going to have to win in order to go deeper in the season. I believe this is a big step for us."

The Cavaliers close out the regular season with the return trip from VCU on Tuesday before heading to Virginia Tech. Despite picking up a win at (15) North Carolina two weeks ago and the series win over Louisville, Coach Brian O'Conner says it is important to keep the momentum going.

"For this team that has kind of been up and down all year, for us to get this going into the last four regular season games I think is really, really important and I think we still have a chance to accomplish what our goals are," O'Conner said.
