CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Over the previous five season, Virginia men's lacrosse had only won two ACC games, but the Cavaliers are off to a 2-0 start this season thanks to an overwhelming belief in each other.
"Our future together is going to be great and there's not a doubt in our minds that we could be the best team in the country," junior defenseman Jared Conners said.
The 2-0 start in conference play is the program's first since 2012. Before last season's win over North Carolina, Virginia had gone since March 1st, 2014 without an ACC win.
"Huge getting the monkey off the back last year," Conners said, "Coming into this year we're just a competent group of guys, like I said before we all believe in each other."
This Wahoo team has fought through four straight comeback wins, including both ACC wins over Syracuse and Notre Dame. The team says a lot of the will to win those games comes from the belief in their teammates.
"If you can get the first one I think it definitely builds confidence," junior midfielder Dox Aitken said, "But if we had started 2-0 or if we had gone 0-2 in these games, I know we still have trust in each other, I know we're capable enough team to win the next two as well."
