Tony Bennett knew the questions were coming and they have been there all year.
"Everybody's going to say, well, you're going back to Charlotte. That's where you played and you lost to UMBC," Bennett said Tuesday.
The Cavaliers moved past that loss and went 28-2 in the regular season including a 16-2 mark in ACC play. That helped Virginia clinch a share of a second straight ACC regular season championship. Virginia is the top-seed in this week's ACC tournament.
But the questions about Charlotte remain.
"Yeah, we're excited to get there and play the ACC tournament," senior center Jack Salt said. "Obviously what happened last year happened, and we're ready to go play on Thursday against a good NC State team or Clemson team."
The Cavaliers will face NC State at 12:30 Thursday afternoon.
"We've tried to grow as much as we can and learn from it." Bennett said. "Its all been talked about enough. Its time really to press on. You're going to have to play your best and we understand that. So just get as ready as you can."
Kyle Guy was openly emotional following the loss to UMBC last March. This year, the senior guard is taking a different approach.
"We're doing it," Guy said. "That's just something that I'm going to be repetitive in saying because I've told the guys as we've done everything that we wanted to do and saying what we're going to do. Just really blessed to be in this position and excited for the future."
