CHAPEL HILL, NC (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Tanner Morris and Brendan Rivoli combined to drive in seven runs for Virginia and the Cavaliers opened a key series at North Carolina with a 12-5 win Friday night.
Tied at four in the sixth, Morris drew a bases loaded walk to give the Cavaliers the lead. Nic Kent followed with a bases loaded single to give the Cavaliers a 7-4 lead. The Tar Heels had Virginia at two outs and nobody on in the sixth before the Cavaliers rallied.
Morris finished 3-5 and scored two runs to lead the Cavaliers. Ken drove in two runs and Rivoli added three RBIs on three hits. Every starter recorded a hit or scored a run.
The Tar Heels entered the game tied for the lead in the Coastal Division. The Cavaliers are 10-12 in ACC play.
Noah Murdock pitched into the sixth inning, giving up four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts. The teams play two more games Saturday and Sunday.
