CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Jocelyn Willoughy recorded her second straight 20 point game and Virginia snapped a 26-game losing streak to Duke Sunday afternoon with a 53-47 win.
The Cavaliers last win against Duke came on January 30, 2000. Sunday's win was also a present for head coach Tina Thompson, celebrating a birthday.
Willoughby recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds, her second consecutive such performance. Dominique Toussaint added 14 points in the win. Lisa Jablonowski also pulled down 10 rebounds for Virginia.
The Cavaliers held Duke to just 20-50 shooting and only allowed five free throws for the game. The Cavaliers made eight of their last 10 free throws to put the game away.
Duke committed 21 turnovers in the game, including eight by point guard Haley Gorecki.
A close game throughout, there were eight lead changes with neither team leading by more than seven. With 4:04 remaining, Toussaint pulled up at the free throw line and knocked down a jumper to give the Cavaliers the lead for good.
Toussaint briefly left the game in the third quarter with an elbow injury. She returned minutes later after having her right elbow taped.
Sunday was also Girls and Women in Sports Day at John Paul Jones arena. Long-time athletic administrator Jane Miller was honored at halftime for 35 years of service. She will retire at the end of the academic year.
