'Hoos top Johns Hopkins to bring home Doyle Smith Cup

BALTIMORE, Md. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- (9) Virginia came up with a 16-11 win over (15) Johns Hopkins Saturday to bring home the Doyle Smith Cup for the first time since 2016.

After a back-and-forth game throughout the first half, the Cavaliers tied the game at once again on a Michael Kraus goal with 7:50 in the third quarter. The goal started a 3-0 Wahoo run with Ryan Conrad's goal giving the Cavaliers a 9-8 lead, which they held for the rest of the game.

Michael Kraus lead the way with three goals and two assists, while Matt Moore and Dox Aitken also contributed hat-tricks. Freshman Petey LaSalla scored a career-high two goals, including a behind the back goal off a faceoff to make it 15-10 in the fourth quarter.

The Cavaliers return home next Friday, March 29th to face in-state foe Richmond with faceoff set for 7 p.m.
