CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Miami hit two home runs and that was enough to beat Virginia 3-1 Sunday and complete the three-game sweep.
JP Gates hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Michael Amditis followed with a two-run homer in the sixth for all of the scoring for the Hurricanes.
Nic Kent drove in the only run of the game for Virginia with an RBI triple in the seventh. Cayman Richardson led off the seventh with a double and came around on Kent's hit.
Every starter for Virginia, except one, collected a hit, with Zack Gelof leading the way with a 2-4 performance at the plate. Cam Simmons was the only Cavalier to not reach base.
On the mound, it was by committee for the Cavaliers. Mike Vasil was scheduled to get the start, but he, along with Devin Ortiz and Brendan Rivoli were suspended for a violation of team rules. Brian O'Connor did not know when the three will rejoin the team.
Andrew Abbott made his second career start, pitching to the first four batters of the game. Evan Sperling came on in the second after a leadoff double and struck out the side for a scoreless inning. Riley Wilson pitched two-thirds of an inning and Zach Messinger followed with 1.1 innings of relief.
Kyle Whitten went the longest for the Cavaliers, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. Chesdin Harrington closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
