Mack joins Hall as 'Hoos on Nagurski watch list

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Bryce Hall wasn't the only familiar name to show up on the Nagurski Trophy watch list.

Hall and Virginia teammate Jordan Mack were both among the 92 players on that preseason watch list, released on Tuesday. The Nagurski Trophy goes to the best defensive player in the country each season.

Hall, a rising senior cornerback who earned second-team All-America honors last fall, has also been mentioned on the preseason watch lists for both the Bednarik Award and the Jim Thorpe Award. Hall led the country in pass break-ups (22) last season, and also finished the year with a career-high 62 tackles, two interceptions and two sacks.

Hall was also the only UVA player included on the preseason All-ACC team that came out on Tuesday, receiving the most votes of any defensive player on the team.

Mack showed up on his first preseason watch list on Tuesday. The rising senior finished second on the Wahoos with 66 tackles last year, despite missing four games with a shoulder injury. Mack finished fifth in the ACC with 114 tackles as a sophomore in 2017, and his 220 career tackles are most among active players on the UVA roster.
