CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Miami won both ends of a doubleheader Saturday, sweeping Virginia and winning the series in the process. The Hurricanes took game one 9-6 before taking the nightcap 2-1.
In game one, with the game tied 2-2, Adrian Del Castillo hit a moonshot into the UVA bullpen to give the Hurricanes a three-run lead they would never give up.
After falling behind 8-2, the Wahoos scored four combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings to climb within two, but could not get any closer.
Zach Gelof went 3-3 and scored two runs. Jack Weiler and Logan Michaels had two hits apiece. Weiler started the late inning rally with an RBI double to score Gelof. Michaels followed with an RBI single of his own.
In game two, the teams combined for just nine hits. Miami's Raymond Gil hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead and the sweep.
Griff McGarry threw 6.2 innings getting the start. The sophomore allowed just two runs on four hits, striking out seven. Andrew Abbott allowed three base runners over the final 2.1 innings in scoreless relief.
