CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Greene County native Mikey Moyers lead wire-to-wire to win the 2019 Charlottesville City Amateur Championship with a score of 11-under.
After finishing ever-par on the front nine, Moyers turned it on at the turn with two birdies and a chip-in eagle on the 16th hole to finish the day at 4-under. The former William Monroe and Virginia Tech standout played on the PGA Tour as recently as five years ago, but felt he was able to control the pressure this weekend.
"Took a couple years off from competitive golf, so it felt pretty good to handle my nerves," Moyers said, who's 11-under is one of the tournament's best scores in the last decade, "More about me than the other guys, I was kind of out there playing the course."
Tee group member Steve DeMasters finished the tournament in second as the only other player to finish under par at 2-under. Defending champ Taylor Ratliff rounded out the top three, finishing at even-par for the tournament.
