CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Five ACC teams are among the preseason D1Baseball.com top 25 ranking released Monday morning. Virginia is not one of them.
The Wahoos will begin 2019 unranked following the program's first season without an NCAA regional appearance under head coach Brian O'Connor. UVA opened the year ranked No. 19, but went 29-25 overall (12-18 in ACC play) last spring to miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.
Virginia will open the 2019 season against the preseason No. 1 team in the country, Vanderbilt, at the MLB4 Collegiate Baseball Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona on February 15. UVA's other two opening weekend opponents -- No. 19 TCU and No. 25 Cal State Fullerton -- are also ranked in the D1Baseball.com preseason top 25.
At No. 4 nationally, Louisville his the highest-ranked ACC team in the poll. North Carolina (No. 7), Florida State (No. 13), Wake Forest (No. 20) and Clemson (No. 24) are the other ranked ACC teams.
Starting April 18 at Disharoon Park against the Seminoles, UVA will face three of those ranked teams in consecutive conference series. They'll travel to Chapel Hill for three games against UNC starting on April 26, and host Louisville for three games the first weekend after exams break, starting May 10.
