CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Joe Reed's ability to put points on the board in a variety of ways for the Virginia football team has landed the senior on the Paul Hornung Award watch list.
The Hornung Award goes to the most versatile player in major college football each season. Reed, a rising senior receiver and kick return specialist, was one of four ACC players on the 44-player watch list released on Thursday.
Reed was also on the watch list for the Hornung Award prior to last season.
Reed is UVA's all-time leader in kick return yardage (2,246), and he's the only player in program history with three returns of 90-plus yards for touchdowns. He returned a pair of kicks for scores as a sophomore in 2017, then set the new school record with a 90-yard return against Liberty last November.
As a receiver, Reed finished last season third on the Wahoos with 25 catches for 465 yards. His seven touchdown catches were second on the team. Five of those scores came in UVA's final three regular season games, including two against Liberty and two more in the Cavaliers' loss at Virginia Tech.
