STANARDSVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Sam Brunelle may have played her final game in a William Monroe High School basketball uniform.
Brunelle told The Daily Progress on Wednesday that she plans to have surgery on her injured left foot. Brunelle has been out since getting hurt two weeks ago in the Greene Dragons' win against Brooke Point in the semifinals of the annual Holiday Hoops Classic.
Regarded as one of the top recruits in the country since before her freshman season at William Monroe, Brunelle signed in November to play college basketball at Notre Dame. She's the reigning Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year and VHSL Class 3 Player of the Year, and has surpassed both the 2,000-point and 1,000-rebound plateaus in her high school career.
As a junior last year, Brunelle led William Monroe to the first state playoff appearance in program history. She told The Daily Progress on Wednesday that her goal is to be back on the floor for the Greene Dragons in time for this year's postseason.
