CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Since joining the Tom Sox in mid-June, infielder Thomas Francisco has played in 15 games. The rising sophomore from East Carolina has a hit in each of them -- including 10 multi-hit games in that stretch.
On Thursday, Francisco was one of three Tom Sox players named to the Valley League roster for next week's Prospect Showcase tournament in Cary, NC. Tom Sox pitchers Devin Hemenway and Joe Sprake are also on the 25-player roster that will face a team from the Southern League next Monday, and from the Florida League next Tuesday.
Tom Sox pitching coach Connor Kaden was also named to the Valley League team's coaching staff.
Francisco is hitting .453 in 64 at-bats through his 15 games with the Tom Sox, with 17 RBI and 13 runs scored. He has four three-hit games and six two-hit games in that stretch, including a 2-for-6 night with a pair of runs scored and three RBI in Wednesday's 18-3 win at Purcellville.
Hemenway is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched over five outings this summer, including four starts. The lefty from Florida gave up four runs and struck out five, with three walks, in five shutout innings to earn the win Wednesday night at Purcellville.
Sprake, a right-hander from Elon, is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in five appearances out of the Tom Sox bullpen. He has struck out 20 and walked just three in 16 innings pitched. Take away his last outing against Woodstock -- Sprake was charged with five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings -- and his ERA dips to 1.88 in 13 2/3 innings.
