CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Just after halftime in a league game against Wakefield Country Day, Tandem Friends Coach Robert Jordan is not sweating, his team is up 48-13.
"It's funny because I always ask coach after the game what was the score," Jordan said, now in his 7th year coaching at Tandem, "So I really don't focus much on the score. I just really focus on how we're playing."
This kind of scoring is pretty typical. The Badgers 81 points a game, including meeting the century mark already this season at home versus Holy Cross.
This is Jordan's style, up-tempo, transition basketball, but it does not hurt to have the right players.
"When you have Latrell (Winkey) and Jalen (Anderson) on your basketball team they make it pretty easy," Jordan said.
Latrell Winkey and Jalen Anderson fit right in as Tandem Friends' star tandem, both averaging more than 20 points a game. Winkey currently sits at fourth in the state with 27.5 PPG.
"Fast paced offense, sometimes we can slow it down a little bit, just to get a feel for everybody to know where their position is," Winkey said. "We like to get into things, we don't like to let the defense to set up."
"If you've got the open shot take it, I feel like anybody on this team can shoot the ball," Anderson said.
While they transferred from playing top public school competition, Winkey from Louisa County and Anderson from William Monroe, in games like against lower competition in VISAA Division III, players like Winkey are just ready.
"He got a Mamba mentality, he wants to go out every night and score 40," Anderson said, "I'm around this kid everyday, he's really a competitor at everything."
"Every time I step onto the court, it's 110 percent every time," Winkey said, "I don't stoop down to no one's level. I like the high intensity, I'm a high intensity guy, so when I come onto the court it's 110 percent."
The Badgers currently sit at 7-1 on the season.
