Taylor joins staff at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, NC (CBS19 SPORTS) -- For the first time in his coaching career, Tim Taylor is coaching at an ACC school that is not Virginia. Taylor was named an assistant coach to the women's basketball team at North Carolina.

Taylor joins Courtney Banghart's first staff at North Carolina. She was hired from Princeton to replace Sylvia Hatchell, who resigned after 33 seasons.

Taylor, a Charlottesville native, spent 10 seasons over three stints on the sidelines with the Cavaliers. From 2000-2005, Taylor was Debbie Ryan's recruiting coordinator. In 2009, he was named Ryan's associate head coach, a position he held until 2012.

When Joanne Boyle was looking to fill a spot on the bench, she turned to Taylor for her last two seasons at Virginia. He helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Taylor also has head coaching experience at Orange County and Madison County High School.
