CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Strasburg scored three runs in the top of the 12th inning to win a meeting between division leaders over the Tom Sox 8-5 Thursday night.
Austin Garofalo drove in two with the bases loaded in the top of the 12th to give the Express a 7-5 lead. Strasburg added one more in the frame before the Tom Sox came to bat. The first two Tom Sox batters reached in the bottom of the inning before the next three batters went down in order to end the game.
Charlottesville took a 5-2 lead into the eighth. Walker Imwalle hit a ground ruled double in the third inning to give the Tom Sox a 3-2 lead that would hold until the eighth. Strasburg scored three times in the inning to make it a 5-5 game.
Brian Owens and Imwalle combined to throw 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball to shut down the Express in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings. Kevin Madden came on in relief in the 12th and was charged with the three Strasburg runs.
Paired with a Waynesboro win, the Tom Sox now sit a game back in the South Division standings following the loss.
