CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 Sports) -- The Valley Baseball League playoffs began tonight, and the Tom Sox started off the series against the Covington Lumberjacks in a big way.

Early in the first inning, the Lumberjacks put up two runs after a passed ball at the plate and an error at first base.

The Tom Sox offense was strong tonight -- two two-run home runs from Dan Harwood and Austin Mueller helped to propel the Sox over the Lumberjacks with a 9-4 final score.

With the win, the Tom Sox are a game up on Covington with a chance to close out the series on the road on Monday. The Sox and Lumberjacks will start at 7:00 p.m. in Covington. If the Lumberjacks win, then game three will be back at CHS on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
