CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- The Tom Sox dropped their fifth in seven games after a late inning rally fell short against Winchester, falling 8-5 Wednesday night.
Trailing 6-3 in the eighth, the Tom Sox scored two runs off a Dan Harwood double and a Gregory Ryan groundout to make it 6-5. With the tying run at third, Ramon Garza struck out to end the threat.
Winchester scored two in the top of the ninth and the Tom Sox went down in order to end the rally and the game.
Trey McDyre hit his first home run of the season for the Tom Sox in the second to put the team ahead 2-0. McDyre finished with two RBIs in the loss.
The Royals Adam Palensky hit a towering three-run home run in the third inning to give Winchester a lead it would never give up again. Palensky finished with five RBIs on the night.
