Tom Sox roll early to win over New Market

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- The Tom Sox jumped out to an early lead Sunday to win 9-2 over defending Valley League Champions New Market.

Mike Zubovich and the Tom Sox retired the first six batters of the game in order. Zubovich went 4.0 innings allowing only three hits and striking out seven. The Tom Sox bats came alive in the second inning with back-to-back extra base hits by Dan Harwood and Gregory Ryan to take a 3-0 lead.

After the Rebels put up two runs in the eighth, the Tom Sox capped the game with a 5-run eighth inning.

The Tom Sox are off Monday before hosting Staunton on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
