UVA closes regular season with Commonwealth Clash win

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia closed out the regular season with a 4-2 win over Virginia Tech in a Commonwealth Clash match on senior day.

The Hokies started the day off by winning two out of three doubles matches to secure a 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers responded with three straight singles wins lead off by freshman Brandon Nakashima winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). He was shortly followed by another straight sets win for Gianni Ross (6-4, 6-4).

Senior Henrik Wiersholm put Virginia one point away from clinching the match with a win in straight sets (7-6 (7-2), 6-4). After the Hokies closed in on the lead to make it 3-2, freshman Ryan Goetz fought back after losing the first set and trailing in the second set to Virginia Tech's Carlo Donato to clinch the match (5-7, 7-5, 6-3) for the Wahoos.

Virginia finished the season as the No. 2 seed in this week's ACC tournament, which earns them a bye into Friday's quarterfinals.
