UVA comes back to stun Notre Dame

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Despite trailing by five in the third quarter, Virginia men's lacrosse closed the game on a 8-1 run to come back and beat Notre Dame 13-11 Saturday afternoon.

Ian Laviano tied a career-high with five goals in the game, including the go-ahead goal which gave the Cavaliers (5-2, 2-0 ACC) a 11-10 lead. Dox Aiken added three goals, including the final goal which put the game out of reach with under a minute to play.

Virginia opened the game, scoring three of the first four goals, two by Laviano. Notre Dame responded with a 9-2 run spanning the second and third quarters to take a 10-5 lead.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Cavaliers, and first not in an overtime game during the stretch. It also pushed Virginia to 2-0 in ACC play for the first time since 2012. The two wins this season equal Virginia's total conference regular season wins in the last five years.

The win also snapped a seven game winning streak for the Irish over Virginia dating back to 2006. It was the first time Virginia beat Notre Dame as ACC opponents.
