CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Mamadi Diakite and Kihei Clark will be back for December's rematch. Several other key players from March's dramatic Virginia victory over Purdue in the Elite Eight will not.
UVA will visit the Boilermakers on December 4 as part of the upcoming season's Big Ten/ACC Challenge in men's basketball. The Wahoos beat Purdue 80-75 in overtime of last season's national quarterfinals -- after Clark found Diakite for a buzzer-beating jumper that tied the game at the end of regulation -- en route to UVA's first-ever national championship.
UVA overcame a 42-point performance by Purdue's Carsen Edwards to win that Elite Eight game. Edwards has since declared for the NBA Draft, as have three key members of the Cavaliers' NCAA title run -- guard De'Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy. Diakite also declared for the draft, but chose to return to UVA for his final college season.
Virginia has won its last five Big Ten/ACC Challenge games. Three of those victories have come on the road, including last year's visit to Maryland, where the Wahoos won 76-71. Tony Bennett is 8-2 in the Challenge as head coach at UVA.
