UVA's Hunter named to Naismith defensive player watch list

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Fifteen players were named to the Naismith defensive player of the year midseason watch list Tuesday afternoon. Virginia's De'Andre Hunter was one of them.

Entering the Wahoos contest against Wake Forest, Hunter is averaging 14.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, both good for second on the team. He also 10 steals and four blocked shots this season.

Hunter is one just two ACC players on the midseason watch list. Duke freshman Zion Williamson is the other. He is averaging almost 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks per game for the Blue Devils.

The award was introduced following the 2017-18 season. West Virginia's Jevon Carter was the first recipient.
