CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia's Charles Snowden was one of 51 college linebackers on the preseason watch list released on Monday morning for the Butkus Award.
Named after Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus, the award has been given annually since 1985 to the best college linebacker in the country. Snowden is one of six players from the ACC on the 2019 preseason watch list.
Snowden's nine pass breakups and 11 passes defended were both most in the country among linebackers last season. The 6-7 rising junior started all 13 games for UVA, finishing with 61 tackles -- including 7 1/2 tackles for loss and 2 1/2 sacks -- and two interceptions, plus one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Butkus Award semifinalists will be announced on November 4, and finalists three weeks later. The winner will be notified in early December.
