Wahoos sweep St. John's, advance to NCAA 2nd round

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia made quick work of St. John's to win 4-0 and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Wahoos got off to a quick start winning the doubles point after the pairs of Henrik Wiersholm and Brandon Nakashima (6-2) as well as Carl Soderlund and Aswin Lizen (6-2) picked up wins.

In singles, the Cavaliers got quick back-to-back wins from freshmen Nakashima (6-1, 6-1) and Ryan Goetz (6-0, 6-2) to take a 3-0 lead over St. John's. Gianni Ross was able to clinch the sweep on court four with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Virginia is now 29-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament when hosting. The Cavaliers will host South Carolina at 1 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center on Saturday.
