Wahoos open season by beating William & Mary

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- No. 17 Virginia opened match play season with a 6-1 victory over William & Mary at Boar's Head Sports Club.

The Wahoos jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by picking up the doubles point, then getting a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Carl Soderlund on court one, and a 6-0, 6-3 win from freshman Brandon Nakashima on court two. Henrik Wiersholm sealed the UVA vctory with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court four.

Aswin Lizen (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and freshman Ryan Goetz (7-6, 6-2) picked up the other singles points for UVA. Sebastian Quiros earned William & Mary's lone point by beating Gianni Ross in three sets on court three.

UVA opens ACC play on Sunday when Louisville visits Boar's Head.
