Wahoos the new No. 1 in coaches poll; fourth in AP

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia fans received a gift from voters in the men's basketball coaches poll on Christmas Eve.

UVA is the new No. 1 team in the country, according to the latest coaches poll, released on Monday. The 11-0 Cavaliers are ranked fourth in the new Associated Press poll, also released on Monday.

UVA was ranked fifth in the AP poll and third in the coaches poll last week. The Wahoos improved to 11-0 with wins at South Carolina on Wednesday, and at home against William and Mary on Sunday.

Kansas had been ranked No. 1 in both polls, but fell to fifth in both rankings after losing 80-76 at Arizona State on Saturday night. Duke, Michigan and Tennessee are the three teams in front of UVA in the AP poll. Those same three teams are right behind the Wahoos in the coaches poll, but with Tennessee ranked third and Michigan fourth.
