Warriors win second straight Wells Fargo Cup

CROZET, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Western Albemarle's eight state championships were more than enough to give the Warriors the highest honor the VHSL offers, winning the Wells Fargo Cup.

The win was the second Wells Fargo Cup for Western Albemarle in a row. The Warriors have won five cups since the award was first given in 1990.

The Wells Fargo Cup goes to the school in each VHSL classification that has achieved the best overall record in VHSL state level competition in 27 sports.

Western Albemarle scored a total of 777.5 points to win the Class 3 Wells Fargo Cup. The Warriors won state championships in boys and girls soccer, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls tennis, boys cross country and indoor track. Western Albemarle beat second place Tabb by 315 points.

Other area schools finishing high in the Wells Fargo cup standings includ Monticello finishing in 16th in class 3 with Fluvanna County coming in 20th. William Monroe finished in 21st.

Charlottesville finished in a tie for 19th in Class 4. Louisa County came in 30th.

In Class 5, Albemarle finished in eighth place.
