CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Jocelyn Willoughby stepped to the free thrown line six times in the final three and a half minutes against Duke and made all six shots. That is nothing out of the ordinary for the junior over the last few games.
Willoughby scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Blue Devils for her second straight double-double. That came one game after scoring a career-high 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in an overtime win against Boston College.
Both of those games ended in victories for the Cavaliers.
Willoughby leads the Cavaliers in both scoring and rebounding. She also has a team high six double-doubles this season. Virginia is 3-3 in those games, but 2-1 when Willoughby records a double-double in ACC play. The lone conference loss came in a four-point loss at Syracuse.
"I've watched her as she's played in the league and she's such a physical player," Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie said following the Blue Devils loss to the Cavaliers. "She uses her physicality. She obviously used it a lot more in the second half. She's got 10 rebounds, 20 points. She had a pretty stellar game."
Willoughby did most of her damage in the second half after being charged with two early fouls in the first quarter. She said after not being able to help the team on the floor early, she still found a way to be involved.
"For me, its always about the team," Willoughby said, "so I always say if I'm not scoring, if I'm in foul trouble, I can always do something to uplift the team. I can cheer. I can point out things that I'm seeing from the bench to my team. Keeping the team together and really encouraging any time I can."
The Cavaliers travel to North Carolina Sunday afternoon.
