BLACKSBURG, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia Tech broke a four game losing streak by extending its winning streak over Virginia Friday night.
With that win, the Hokies will host Marshall on December 1 with a chance to become bowl eligible. That would push Virginia Tech's bowl streak to 26 consecutive years, the longest streak in the country.
"You just want your kids so desperately," Virginia Tech football coach Justin Fuente said following the Hokies 34-31 overtime win, "that are putting all that work in, to have some success and it was hard for them to get to celebrate tonight. They had to go through a lot, but I was proud that they did."
Virginia Tech enters that game with Marshall at 5-6 on the season. A sixth win makes the Hokies bowl eligible and defensive coordinator Bud Foster thinks a "complete game" like Virginia Tech had against Virginia could propel the Hokies to another win.
"Obviously, we've had some tight games with these guys," Foster said, "but I don't know if there's been a complete game like this, particularly in this streak. Or in a while. I just thought it was a great football game."
