Albemarle County Police Officers Disciplined

The Newsplex has learned three Albemarle County Police officers have been disciplined and a fourth has been fired.

Employment records released by the county at the request of the Newsplex show that the officer fired was a six year veteran of the force. Caleb Marden lost his job on March 2. Scott Cox, an officer with 18 years experience was demoted from sergeant to corporal, and Caroline Morris, an employee with nine years experience was demoted from corporal to police officer.

The Newsplex has learned the fourth officer involved, Todd Hopwood, a 19-year veteran of the force, was suspended from duty.

Sources say the incidents that triggered this development did not involve corruption or criminal wrongdoing.
