CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (AP) -- A couple's home on Prospect Avenue turned into a construction site Tuesday morning.
Members from Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS® and Blue Ridge Home Builders Association are dedicating six hours a day to the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program to fix-up a deserving couple's outside deck.
AHIP fundraises year round and donations received are put toward the Safe at Home Initiative, which offers household repairs and home rehab for seniors, low-income homeowners, families with children, and those with disabilities.
"I couldn't afford to build one on my own," said Prospect Avenue homeowner Elizabeth Carter. "Not working anymore, on disability and I just needed a new deck. It's really dangerous for me to go outside if my doctor wanted me out."
Elizabeth has been out of work for three years, battling cancer, while her husband has been working with the City of Charlottesville for 11 years.
The Carter family is looking forward to having some good home-cooked meals on their new deck.
