CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- The Charlottesville Fire Department has announced its 2016 hiring season.
Department officials say they are looking for a diverse new group of firefighters.
The optimal candidate will be "compassionate, athletic, and highly motivated."
With only several female firefighters currently on staff, the department is also making an effort to increase diversity within the department.
"Having a diverse amount of firefighters really helps our community," said firefighter Lance Blakey. "When you go out to the public to help an individual in the community during an emergency, it's great to see people who are like you."
The application process closes on March 31.
While no experience is necessary, the hiring process will consist of a personal history questionnaire, a written test, a physical agility test, a panel interview and a chief interview.
Those interested may apply online or attend the Piedmont Community College Job Fair on March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PVCC Main Building.
