SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) - An emergency official says fumes sickened more than a dozen cheerleaders as they were traveling by bus through Spotsylvania County.
Battalion chief Jeff Carter with Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management says 15 cheerleaders had symptoms of difficult breathing. They were taken to hospitals in Fredericksburg for treatment.
Carter says the bus was traveling on Interstate 95 on Sunday night when passengers began smelling an unknown fume. The bus stopped and emergency responders were contacted.
Carter says the bus was traveling to North Carolina from a cheerleading competition in Washington, D.C. He didn't know the ages of the cheerleaders or whether they are students.
