CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- The Martin Luther King community choir has started rehearsing for this year's MLK celebration day. The choir held its first practice at Mount Zion first African Baptist Church in Charlottesville.
Members are made up of of a variety of religious backgrounds. They get together once a year to harmonize in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's theme for the event is the call to higher ground.
"One of the things that we are trying to look at is how can you make things better," said Dr. Alvin Edwards, Pastor of Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church. "How can you improve on what you have and so if you are going to go to higher ground that means you have to do things differently and that's what the music will be about, that's what the messages will be about for the people who speak from this community."
This is a community choir and anyone is welcome to join. The Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration event which will be held Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
