ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (NEWSPLE) -- Dr. Ho's Humble Pie won this year's CURED Central Virginia Bacon Festival.
The restaurant won with three bacon-inspired dishes: a bacon-inspired strudel, a bacon-inspired salad and a maple bacon doughnut.
Fourteen restaurants competed in the festival, trying to win over the crowd with their bacon creations.
Michael McCarthy, the chef and owner of Dr. Ho's, said, "It's an honor, you know. We didn't really go in there expecting to bring this [trophy] home. We just wanted you know, hangout with some other restaurants and some friends of ours. Some other chefs and colleagues and stuff and have a good time. And just kind of ham it up. You know, and just, turns out, luck was in our favor I guess. You know?"
Dr. Ho's generally serves pizza, but the bacon strudel was so popular at the festival, they are having it as a special all this week.
This was the first year for the food festival.
Organizers hope it will become an annual event.
