GovSmart Named Fastest Growing Business in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- GovSmart is taking the IT industry by storm being recognized as the fastest growing business in Charlottesville and topping Forbes list of Most Promising Companies of 2015.

Businessmen and best friends, Brent Lillard of Madison County and Greene County native Hamza Durrani, are the founders and creators of the highly successful company GovSmart.

The business sells IT solutions to the federal government and contractors to agencies like the Department of Justice and the National Army. "We have the best storage technology, the best network security, and the best general networking technology." says Durrani.

Just having launched in January 2010, the company is now home to a lavish office, but it didn't start out that way. Knowing they weren't destined for a typical 9 to 5 job, these guys started their million dollar company in their apartment kitchen. "Hamza and I got together in 2010 and hit the ground running," says Lillard. We did $750,000 in 2010, 6 million in sales the next year, then 15 million, then 25 million, then this past year 69 million."

GovSmart has grown from a business of two to now employing 15 people. The phenomenal growth of this company can be attributed to team work and a unique work atmosphere. "We have cloud lights, bean bag chairs, fish tanks and we cook in the office," says Lillard. "It's just a different kind of environment."

Within the next couple of years both Durrani and Lillard hope to tap into commercial markets while remaining close to home.

GovSmart just earned a Vascupp contract with state schools participating in the program allowing the company to supply computer equipment to the University of Virginia.
