High School Students Debate the Constitution

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- Students from Charlottesville High School and St. Anne's-Belfield faced off Tuesday in an unusual event: a debate over the United States Constitution.

The students were debating whether the Constitution was truly written "by the people, for the people," or just for elites.

In addition to learning more about the Constitution, students said they enjoyed working together.

"They are very prepared," said Charlottesville High School senior John Pinkston of the St. Anne's students. "They're a little bit better dressed than we are, but it's been cool kind of mixing in, meeting new faces and all that."

Both teams did well, as the judge asked for a few days to deliberate before announcing a winner.
